Description

The proposed research is a qualitative study of women who enrolled in a clinical trial of postpartum IUD use one year earlier in Lilongwe, and their male partners.
Hypothesis: Culturally-specific beliefs and knowledge explain women’s decisions to accept and/or decline, and continue and/or discontinue use of the IUD.
Objective 1: To understand the reasons for continuation or discontinuation, and obstacles to acceptance of the IUD in women who enrolled in a study of postpartum IUD insertion.
Objective 2: To understand the reasons for supporting continuation or discontinuation and obstacles to acceptance of the IUD in men whose partners enrolled in a study of postpartum IUD insertion.
