Carolina Breast Cancer Study: PHASE III

Project: Research project

Description

Racial disparity in breast cancer outcome is multifactorial, including access to care, heterogeneity in risk factors, tumor and microenvironmental biologic variations, and treatment adherence. Determining the root causes of this disparity in order to target it requires a large population-based study with comprehensive clinical, exposure, social, treatment, and outcome data collected prospectively. Phase III of the Carolina Breast Cancer Study (CBCS III), with its 3,000 cases (1,500 AA and 1,500 white), will substantially enhance our ability to do subset epidemiology and find information that changes practice
